New York, NY, USA / December 2017 / Howard Hughes commissioned this public art piece (also known as Sea of Light) to illuminate Manhattan’s Seaport District.
I conceived of a luminous activation that bathed the historic cobblestone streets with light inspired by the vibrant hues of a blazing sunrise/sunset using over 220,000 LED bulbs dispersed throughout eleven sculptures.

The glowing acrylic spheres are lit by LED bulbs, and activated by thermal cameras that track heat signatures.
